2 Day Komodo Kayaking Itinerary

Day 1 - Meet the team, paddle the seas, trek to see Komodo Dragons, savor the sunset

We will pick you up at 9 am from your hotel or Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo. From KP3 Harbor, we head to Kelor Island where a short trek offers beautiful views of the turquoise sea and green hills.

Next, you will paddle along white sandy beaches and through mangroves to Rinca Island. Here you will land from the boat and meet the famous Komodo dragons in their natural home.

After lunch on the boat, relax and get ready to paddle around Kalong Island. In the late afternoon, watch thousands of fruit bats take flight as the sun sets over Komodo National Park. Dinner is served on board and you will spend the night anchored near Padar Island.

Day 2 - Manta, paddle, swim and farewell

Today is all about enjoying the water as we kayak and snorkel through the islands of Komodo National Park. We travel from Manta Point toward Sebayur and Kanawa.

We begin around Manta Point, where we may have the chance to snorkel and drift alongside manta rays. From there, we paddle along scenic coastlines with support from our boat, taking breaks whenever needed.

Around Sebayur, we stop for swimming and snorkeling over colorful reefs. Later, we continue toward Kanawa Island, known for its clear water and relaxed island feel. Kayaking distances stay flexible so the day remains comfortable and fun.

In the afternoon, we finish the trip at Kanawa and return to Labuan Bajo, ending the journey with great memories from the sea.

Is it Safe?

Absolutely. The Komodo Islands, where we operate, are a relatively sheltered island group with infrequent large swells, making them well-suited to sea kayaking. Our professional sea kayaks are sleek, extremely stable, and equipped with standard safety features for long touring paddling.

All of our sea kayak guides are certified and from the local area, with extensive experience kayaking and working in wild places, which ensures solid risk management and emergency care. At least one guide will always accompany you on the water, and depending on group size we maintain a low guest-to-guide ratio.

There can be challenging conditions and currents in some areas, but they are well known to our team and easily managed through careful route planning. We also have a support boat on the water and radio contact with the Park Rangers office for added safety measures.

What is Sea Kayaking like?

Sea-kayaking is an incredible way to explore our home, our seas. It’s an affordable and eco-friendly activity that doesn’t require extensive training or exceptional strength. It’s not just good for your body, but also nourishes your soul. Sea-kayaking can transport you beyond civilization and into the enchanting realm where earth, sea, and sky converge.

Is Kayaking In Komodo Challenging? Do I need to be in great shape to do this?

No prior experience is needed to get started. As long as you’re in good health, feel reasonably comfortable on the water, and have a sense of adventure, you’ll quickly master the basic skills required to paddle and steer your kayak under the guidance of our certified local sea kayak guides.

Our team provides a thorough introductory lesson at the start of the journey and stays close throughout to support, coach, and keep an eye on everyone’s safety and enjoyment. There can be challenging conditions and currents in some areas, but they are well known to our guides and are easily managed through careful route planning. We also have a support boat on the water and radio contact with the Park Rangers office for added safety measures on every trip.

What are the group sizes?

To minimise our impact and keep the experience personal, we cap each group at a maximum of 14 guests, with a minimum of 2 guides on every departure. Depending on the overall kayaking experience within the group, we may increase the number of guides to maintain a low guest-to-guide ratio and close on-water support.

Is there more to do than just Kayaking - will I get bored?

The list of activities is endless! You’ll have chances to snorkel in clear waters and explore beautiful coral reefs. We’ll stop at lovely beaches where you can relax or soak up some sun, bird-watch, you will get a chance for trekking and encounter wildlife, also interact with locals. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can take a refreshing swim when we anchor the boat. And don’t forget, our boats are spacious enough for you to chill out, read a book, or just enjoy the scenery between paddling sessions. Dine under the starry sky, share stories, witness breathtaking sunsets, strum guitars, gaze at the stars, and enjoy restful sleep. You’ll find an array of experiences to cherish!

Will we be camping?

No. Camping is not allowed inside Komodo National Park, and we strictly follow the regulations set by the park authority on this. Beyond the regulations, camping also carries higher risks related to fire, wildlife, and waste.

Instead, you will stay in comfort onboard our custom-built kayak support boat, which allows us to keep impact low while staying close to the best paddling locations.

had a fantastic experience trip in Komodo National Park and felt important to leave this review for everyone’s reference.

The trip for 2D1N Komodo Kayaking and this was my very first time joining a kayak trip. Booking was really easy online only 5 minutes to confirm it. Komodo Kayaking guidance and instruction were supportive and helpful throughout the trip, as I’m the first timer for kayaking, you know la. Hahaha 😁 but so much fun. We were lucky with the weather and the water was calm which made me feel more excited to paddle it. We went to Bidadari Island – Rangko Cave – Kaaba Island – Rinca Island – Manta Point & Sebayur Island. The experience out on the water was lovely. It was a wonderful trip. This dragon year is going to work perfectly.

Thank you so much Komodo Kayaking! We look forward to working with you!

I’m just back on Bali after exploring Flores and a trip kayaking. I am still smiling, amazed…and my arms a bit sore. This was the highlight of my Indonesian trip. First was the scenery – the kayaks can get into places even the dingoes can go…and they are silent. Se we were paddling over corals and schools fish in shallow bays hidden behind mangroves. It was another world! Also did the tour and saw Komodo dragons…but I never expected to say that seeing dragons in the wild wasn’t as good the kayaking!
I must say that the team – everyone I met and emailed with was brilliant. It’s all Indonesian with the warmth, smiles and welcoming attitude that really shows the best side of the country. It was also run to the highest standards and they even bordered on being too safe! The guides always wanted to be nearby and asked if everything was okay, but once they saw I was experienced and safe, they gave me some more space and just directed me and two other guests through those incredible a waters.
And I have to say – I didn’t expect the quality I got! Those were proper sea kayaks, we had proper kayaking pfd – and even offered sun caps and reef safe sunscreen! I can’t say how much I loved this trip!!
